Nnamdi Kanu In a surprise turn around on election boycott yesterday urged all Igbos to come out en-mass and vote, the self proclaimed leader of the Indegenous People of Biafra,Kanu has directed all Igbos to participate in the forthcoming elections.
The self-acclaimed leader of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu on Thursday called off the boycott of the 2019 general election.
Kanu had on several fora urged the people of the South East to boycott the 2019 presidential election billed for February 16 and instead use the day to push for the actualization of Biafra.
The Abia-born made is leading the secessionist group and has repeatedly said the only condition for members of the group to vote is if the federal government yields to their request.
Concise News understands that Kanu who resurfaced in Jerusalem, Israel, October 19, 2018, said the Nigerian government must conduct a referendum for the Igbos to determine whether they want to be part of Nigeria or not.
Recall that IPOB had said the election boycott will be a statement of intent about the Biafran struggle.
According to a statement released last year, he said, “in order to live as free men under God in a new republic of Biafra, we must not only stay indoors on the 16th of February 2019, we must ensure that Biafraland is completely locked down and anybody or family found outside on election day will perpetually suffer the ignominy of being labelled a traitor; a burden that family will bear till eternity.”
However, in a tweet Thursday night, Kanu explained that the reason for the change of stance was because the federal government has met the group’s conditions and terms.
He wrote: “Having confirmed this evening that all our preconditions and terms have been met, signed, sealed and delivered; I hereby call-off the election boycott across Biafraland on Feb. 16, 2019.
“I dedicate this historic victory to the formidable. #IPOB family worldwide.”
